Aat Gustian is one of the students in Indonesia Art Institute Padangpanjang. This composition is made to complete his bachelor's degree in contemporary music. The graph of this melody has the wealth and potential that needs to be cultivated and developed. A sense of musical tradition of Barzanji has inherent and merges in the artist itself.
If we think about music contemporary analysis from the name of “Saruan” means in Indonesia is an invitation. And “Marhaban” means in Arabic is “Welcome or congratulation”. So the meaning is the “invitation to welcome”.
The result of music contemporary artist Gustian Aat Putra from the new artwork Saruan Marhaban using the approach of tradition. As the implementation of the goals of this artwork is to develop artistic traditions in song Barzanji.
In the form of new music with vocals are supported by the implementation of several instruments such as the Pano, Rabano, Dol Bengkulu, Accordion, Mandolin, Guitar Bass and Cello. Most of the instrument is originally from West Sumatera (Minangkabau) traditional music. That’s why the vibe tone of the music represents the culture itself.
The strong taste of tone develops the new music contemporary without losing the meaning. Because the topic also about Minangkabau and the majority of people in Minangkabau is Islam. So blend with the audience because represent their belief system. We can category as contemporary music and spirituality.
The implementation is done by using the method of observation directly into the field by the survey, interview, questions, exploration, and studio work. To reach harmonization in the new music composition Saruan Marhaban and have a deep understanding of each melody. To deliver the message to the audience from the music contemporary art.
