Matasora Folk World Festival was held in Cijaringao Hejo Udjo, Bandung on 22-23 July 2017. Visitors could enjoy a lot of things like live music, art discussions, street food, games, and creative exhibitions. Musicians came from different countries like Collin Bass (UK), Electric Fields (Australia), Sambasunda (Indonesia) and collaboration Gilles Saissi and Patrick Shaw Iversen (Norway).
The event had great success, it was well organized and implemented eye-catching design. It has attracted a thousand local and international visitors. The spirit behind it is to promote West Java or such called Paris Van Java. Since 1906 the city of Bandung has been developing gradually that’s why the Dutch called it Parijs van Java.
The workshop program included Jaipong dance by Mira Tejaningrum and many more. For those who like cinema, the local movies such as Mengejar Dangdut (Suddenly Dangdut), Sengatan si Bengal (Bengal’s Sting), Jejak Musik Harry Roesli (Harry Roesli’s music trail) and Muslim Headbangers were being screened.
Famous as being a creative city, Bandung for a long time hasn't held an international event. Many cities have their own brands and evens to promote their culture in order to get recognition and impact on the nation and international level. With the happening of Matasora Music Festival 2017, the Ministry of Tourism put it on the calendar as a national event.
The event aimed not just to promote the culture, but beyond that is to improve multicultural dialogues. As a big city, Bandung is Indonesia’s third-biggest metropolitan with over than 8 million inhabitants. It’s a challenge for Bandung to build and keep a strong identity as a creative city.
